Decorating Your Staircase with Fresh and Faux Greenery

Decorating for Christmas at the Cathell House started last week! We began by coming up with ideas for decorating the staircases with fresh and faux greenery to keep it simple yet elegant for my home. I had my holiday aroma simmering on the stove and it literally put us in the best holiday mood!

I’ve always loved decorating my staircases because it’s something that is normally overlooked.  It can be a very beautiful focal point for any home during Christmas. Typically I use all real greenery but in the new house we have way too many stairs and I can’t deal with the mess. Once it dries up, it gets crispy and crumbles. Somehow my three kids trample it all over the house! Hence the idea of decorating the staircases with fresh and faux greenery.

This year I decided to use some artificial greenery and a bonus is that it can be used over again! I found this company called Balsam Hill that sells pre-lit faux greenery and it can be bought on Amazon too! It was super easy to set up with the help of my friend Neeley who came into town! To spruce up the greenery we went to the store for some cypress branches, seeded eucalyptus and lengths of redwood! Feel free to venture out into your yard to clip holly, magnolia and cypress, etc. Neeley had the smart idea to buy a cheap Christmas tree at your local grocery store and just chop it up for the fresh greenery too!

Let’s Decorate

To start off, we wrapped the faux greenery around the stairs. We didn’t secure it with anything because it was just wrapped. The fresh branches were tied in with the wired (faux) ones to keep it secure. Simply look for bare places in the greenery and stick the add ins where ever you please!

Finally, I added some gold leaf picks, holly and ribbon at the ends to add a pop of color but making it even more glamorous. I loved mixing fresh and faux greenery this year because it really adds a special mess free Christmas touch. I love walking in and seeing my staircase all lit up and sparkly!
