Palmetto Bluff Travel Guide For Families

Sep 29

travel-guide-1

If you are looking for a great getaway with your husband or a vacation spot with your family you have to try Palmetto Bluff.  It is located about 30 minutes from Savannah on a gorgeous 20,000 acre plantation.  We have been there several times over the years as our family has grown and we are never disappointed.  Not very many people know about this cozy spot, but I just had to share.

Where to Stay:

As a family we have stayed in two different places on the property.  They have cozy little cottages located on the May River that are ADORABLE and they can still accommodate our small family of five.  It has a master bedroom with an en suite and pocket doors that can be used to separate the bedroom from the living room.  The couch in the living room pulls out into a bed and two kids can sleep on that.  Once we put the baby to bed in her crib in the bathroom we are finally alone…as long as the kids stay asleep 😉  We recently went there with friends of ours and rented this cute little house (pictured below).  It was surprising that the house was about the same price per night as the cottage, so keep that in mind.  The house and the cottage both come with bikes and you have access to all of the amenities at the resort.  The two biggest differences in renting a house through VRBO or staying in a cottage is that there is NO room service at the house AND the house is not located on the river…but of course you have more space in a house.

They also just opened up their brand new hotel at the beginning of September. That would be a great place for a little getaway if you don’t want to pay the price tag for a cottage.

How cute are these little white cottages?!  It’s the perfect setting.

What to do:

One of our favorite things to with the kids is to rent a golf cart.  They love going on little adventures around the property.  This place has 20,000 acres so there is plenty to be explored and discovered…plus it’s a great way to stay cool in the heat.

Our kids favorite things to do are:

-go for golf cart rides and explore

-climb the tree house

-swing by the river…or get distracted by the bocce ball court

-dolphin watching on the dock (or go on a dolphin sunset cruise, they loved it!!)

-swimming

-ride in the bike carriage

-get a treat at RT’s market

-roast s’mores in the evening (they do this year round)

This resort is located on the river, but if you really want to visit the beach they can take you by boat!

Where to eat:

The resort has delicious restaurants and they have added several new ones since the hotel opened about a month ago.  Buffalo’s is a great casual restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner that is super easy with kids.  You also have the option of room service. That can be easier with kids sometimes in the evenings because you can eat on your back porch and let them run around at the same time.  If we go to Buffalo’s for dinner we usually order and then I’ll hop across the street and let them swing until it’s ready.  We have also driven into the town of Bluffton about 15 minutes away to eat at some local child friendly places there.  If you are on a couples getaway the resort has awesome restaurants and of course so does Bluffton.  If it’s pool season, it’s so easy to order poolside without having to pack everybody up and move locations.
